Jayen and Tom both came into PartsTrader as Summer of Tech interns and ended up building long term careers there. They’ve moved through different teams, picked up new tech stacks, taken on more responsibility and figured out how to work in a real product environment. Their experiences show how much you can grow in a short internship when you’re curious, ask questions and make the most of the support around you, and they’re a good reminder of the value interns bring when employers give them the space to learn and contribute.

When Jemimah and Maddy joined Pushpay as Summer of Tech interns, they had no idea it would be the start of something bigger. Their internships turned into full-time roles — and since then, they’ve been growing, learning, and making their mark in the tech industry.

We sat down with them to chat about what helped them get their foot in the door, how they approached those first few months, and the lessons they’d share with anyone hoping to turn a Summer of Tech internship into their first big career move.

From Summer interns to full-time Trade Me team members - Aorthi and Hannah’s journeys are a great example of where a Summer of Tech internship can take you. We chatted with them about how they got started, what’s changed since those first days, and their best advice for new interns preparing for their own career beginnings.

Annie Foote is a second-year student studying a Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Cyber Engineering at Victoria University. At the end of her first year in 2022, she landed a Security internship at Helix Security Services.

Courteney is one of our talented Summer of Tech mentors (and 2017 alumni) who we recently caught up to discuss LGBTQI+ and neurodivergence in tech. Now a Power Platform Functional Consultant at Datacom, she generously shares her experience and advice with us about identity disclosure and how to ask for support at work.

We met with Khushi Chauhan, a Senior Product Lead at Kiwi Bank and Summer of Tech alumni and volunteer. She shared the no.1 thing that she learned from her internship at ANZ as a developer in 2018, her career journey and advice for students entering the workforce.

We met with Miten Chauhan, an Intermediate Software Developer and Sales Engineer from SaferMe who also happens to be Summer of Tech alumni from 2016 and 2017. He shared how he’s grown in the tech industry, what he learnt from being a mentor, what his mentees taught him and gave advice on entering the field.

In the summer of 2021, we met with Jessica Taylor, who landed a UX Design internship at ANZ. She shares with us the challenges of remote working, how she is supported by the team and her internship advice for students and graduates.

Our friends at Snapper show us how to do work culture and teamwork right. We met with two previous UX/UI design interns (circa 2021), Kristine Brooks and Wenjing Xie, who have since been promoted into the Grad programme.
